Judith Huemer

The glass lettering glows neon pink from the ceiling. It is the artist’s handwriting. A personal event, a significance in her life, has inscribed itself. The pink radiance is enormous and lends the church interior an exceptionally warm and unusual atmosphere. With the temporary light object, the sacred space expands into the present. Judith Huemer’s conceptual work is inspired by Gilles Deleuze’s philosophical understanding, which ascribes a special meaning to the term “becoming.” According to this, everything is part of a moving process with no beginning or end point. Huemer sees this as a motor, as a poetic transformation and as an idea of movement in order to be in the middle of the process – in doing, in thinking, in life. With the beginning of Lent, the light object “werden” (“becoming”) moved into Vienna’s oldest church, the Ruprechtskirche.

Neon-pink leuchtet der gläserne Schriftzug von der Decke. Es ist die Handschrift der Künstlerin. Eingeschrieben hat sich ein persönliches Ereignis, eine Signifikanz in ihrem Leben. Die rosa Strahlkraft ist enorm und verleiht dem Kirchenraum eine außergewöhnlich warme und auch ungewohnte Atmosphäre. Mit dem temporären Lichtobjekt weitet sich der Sakralraum in die Gegenwart. Judith Huemers konzeptionelle Arbeit ist inspiriert von Gilles Deleuze’ philosophischem Verständnis, das dem Begriff „Werden“ eine besondere Bedeutung zuspricht. Demnach befindet sich alles in einem bewegten Prozess, bei dem es keinen Anfangs- oder Endpunkt gibt. Huemer versteht dies als Motor, als poetische Transformation und als Idee der Bewegung, um prozesshaft mittendrin zu sein – im Tun, im Denken, im Leben.
Mit Beginn der Fastenzeit ist das Lichtobjekt >werden< in die älteste Kirche Wiens, die Ruprechtskirche, eingezogen.
